Palestine

I can’t even begin to claim to be qualified to even speak on this subject, but I’d rather say something instead of saying nothing while the rest of the world watches the IDF commit a campaign of genocide in broad daylight, and with seemingly little repercussion.

90 Days.

That’s how long it’s taken Israeli forces to murder over 20,000 people and simultaneously displace almost the entire population of Gaza; around 2.3 Million people.

In the first 6 Days alone the IDF dropped nearly 6000 Bombs, with many thousands of those capable of destroying almost everything within a near 1000 feet radius. The sheer scale of destruction is unimaginable, let alone the pain, suffering and collective trauma suffered by millions of people at the hands of an army seemingly devoid of any shred of humanity.

This is not a war.

This is genocide.

And yet it continues unabated. Every Twitter, Instagram and TikTok feed filled with images and videos of senseless violence, screaming voices, dying (& dead) children, murdered journalists and unimaginable horrors that even your darkest nightmares wouldn’t dare disturb your sleep with; all celebrated with reckless abandon by the IDF and those who support them.

It seems like we’re going backwards, not forwards. Doomed to repeat the mistakes of the past, just this time at light speed; with the IDF killing thousands of people before you even scroll to the next reel.

I’ve written before about hope, but this situation seems entirely hopeless. There are no winners here, even if a ceasefire is agreed, rather, the question now seems to be how can we help those left alive to heal, and find a lasting solution to peace?

The truth is, I don’t even know if we can find answers to these questions either.

The anti-immigration sentiment that has been simmering for the last decade is now at a rolling boil, and adding any more heat will result in an overspill of racism fuelled violence across the continent. Even in the U.K. we’ve seen knife crime rise 5% year over year, and it feels like we’re dangerously close to the flash point in other parts of Europe too.

Feeling helpless is easy, and as much as I feel like the only way to help would be to drive humanitarian aid to the border in Egypt myself, I promise to at least do the following;

  1. Donate to Doctors Without Borders

  2. Ensure we hold our own government to account in demanding a ceasefire

  3. Support and listen to the voices of those directly impacted, including my friends here in the U.K, and lastly, but by no means least;

  4. Continue to stand for Human Rights, for all those oppressed and suffering as a result of conflict, disaster, corruption and marginalisation. Standing for equity, and peace for all. Always.

I know that the road to peace will be long, but I hope, with all my heart, that the suffering will end, that people will heal, and one day soon we’ll see it clearly;

A Free Palestine.
